Alfred by Clever Sense

TechCrunch reports Google is acquiring the Silicon Valley-based startup Clever Sense, the maker of the mobile application “Alfred,” which delivers personalized recommendations for nearby restaurants, coffee shops, bars and nightclubs using a combination of artificial intelligence and machine-learning algorithms.

Reportedly, Clever Sense was also in talks with Groupon. However, it was clever enough to go with Google.

Clever Sense started with recommendations for restaurants and other local venues (bars, clubs, etc.) and is now planning to use its technology to move into making deal recommendations next, like those from daily deal outlets such as Groupon and Living Social. It can also diversify to recommend other things, like local activities, entertainment, and more.

Google Voice Search

Google has transformed the way we search. First, it was instant search and now, for those who have no time to type / click / touch for search, Google brings no click searching.

Google has unveiled a new feature that allows people to make Google search requests on many office and home computers without a keyboard — a feature ported to the desktop from smartphones running on Google’s Android software.

The spoken-request option will be available only on Google’s Chrome browser. It will be activated by clicking on a microphone icon inside Google’s search box. Chrome users will get the new feature within the next few days.
